The fall edition series will feature three aspects relevant now in architecture: sustainability, affordability and spatial equity. I like to follow each and try to tie them together, or see where sometimes they are at odds.
Trying not to stray too far into sociopoliticaleconomicisms as possible the series will analyze and discuss some paths towards overarching ideas. Climate change is now a reality and adaptation will happen, the key is to interact positively to it in a way that will make future generations possible.
While dialectic change is exciting and attention-grabbing there are a number of nondialectical trends to keep an eye on, as well.
Any news coming out of the UN council on the Future may get a mention as well.
The intent is to build an erratic and sometimes deliberately skewed chronicle from a point of view that may be tested to see whether its more specific or more general.
We'll also post recipies and encourage readers to submit reviews or observations for discussion.
I'll start with mine. One of my favorite parts of the paper is the "ticked off/flip side" column, daily ranting and praising. They're colorful and unique and are how people really talk sometimes, so are worth keeping as a kind of realspeak that is allowed to creep into print. I'll soon do a piece about "it did happen..." which is some of the best stuff yet.
Architecturally, I'll be honest, I'm seeking more of the "it did happen" folkloric architecture as it is vanishing daily. This isn't fish camp stuff, its far more primitive than that.
